#1. Bowie Knife / Alamo. Handle is in the shape of the
famous Bowie Knife, so
named for the second casualty listed below the cameo of Travis on the knife
handle. Bowl depicts the Alamo
in San Antonio where those named on the handle (among many others) lost
their lives during the Mexican siege and attack. Reverse commemorates the
Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Sterling, 5 7/8", L. W. B., excellent
condition. |

#2. Baltimore Turtle. Handle of this heavy spoon is
embossed with examples of Maryland sea life: a terrapin, a couple of oysters, a
crab and a clam. Reverse plain with jeweler's marks and STERLING. Bowl embossed
with view of Battle Monument which was dedicated in memory of the battle during
the war of 1812 that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled
Banner. Sterling souvenir spoon, 6", made by Geo. Shiebler (but doesn't

#5. Kaiser Wilhelm II. Enamel finial with stylized eagle and enamel bowl with great portrait of the German Emperor and King of Prussia who assumed the titles on the death of his father in 1888. Souvenir spoon collecting was the rage among wealthy Europeans at that time and would cross the Atlantic with Daniel Low just a year or two later. Enamel condition is very good with a void in the finial as indicated on the enlarged picture. Hole has straight sides and no gloss is missing around its edges. 800 silver, pine tree & crown mark, 5¼", very good condition. For Sale $75. |

high-relief handle with seal and city scenes embossed, front and back. Bowl
embossed with harbor entrance view and labeled per title. This spoon wins the

# 8. Miami, Biscayne Bay Soffkee / Osceloa. Here's a
spoon with an angled handle to mimic a Seminole Soffkee Spoon (so described by
lettering on back of handle) and a bowl that is embossed front and back to
depict both Biscayne Bay and the famous Indian Chief
Osceola. Sterling, 5 3/8", Gorham for Greenleaf & Crosby, very good

standing figure, front and back, with a fierce face and holding a long spear. He

into handle. Bowl is embossed with July birth month verse: JULY, The glowing
ruby should adorn, those who in warm July are born; Thus will they be exempt and

#57. Indian items / Mobile Under Five Flags (enamel). Handle
embossed with Indian Chief & papoose on front, archer on back. Bowl embossed
and enameled with the five
flags that have flown over Mobile, Alabama: British, Spanish, French, USA
and CSA. I can't detect any flaws in the enamel. The bowl edge is slightly
uneven at the 5 o'clock position which is noticeable only from the back and even
at that, barely apparent. Sterling, 5¼", Shepard, condition very good as
noted. |

#58. Absecon Lighthouse / Marlborough Blenheim, Atlantic City,
NJ. Figural lighthouse, front and back, labeled ABSECON
LIGHT and with a banner reading ATLANTIC CITY. Bowl engraved with view of
very large resort hotel and the title MARLBOROUGH BLENHEIM. Engraved image
was blackened at the factory but some of the black has been partly polished away
creating a light look in the middle of the bowl. Sterling, 5 7/8", Watson

#59. Atlantic City / Bathing Hour. Atlantic City handle
with resort scenes embossed front and back. Bowl embossed with bathers in the
ocean and one in the foreground serving as the movement on a clock. Her legs
point to 11 and 6, making the time 11:30 which apparently is the "Bathing
Hour". Sterling, 5¼", Watson & Newell, very good condition. |

framed with a shell and 2 fish, then ATLANTIC CITY down the stem. Additional
city scenes on back. Bowl is embossed with nice perspective view of the board

#61. Ohio / Suspension Bridge, Cincinnati. State handle
and embossed bowl depicting what is now called the John
A. Roebling Suspension Bridge after its designer who then designed the
Brooklyn Bridge in NYC twenty years later. When this bridge was opened for
pedestrian traffic in 1866, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

#62. Gorham Fish / Columbus, Ohio. Although you'll find
this and other spoons listed on eBay as Narragansett pattern, I think Gorham,
the manufacturer, simply called it a Five O'clock Tea Spoon. There is a
little fish applied to the handle and wrapped with a sterling ribbon. The bowl
of this one is acid etched with COLUMBUS, OHIO. See spoons #69 & #90 below
for two more examples of the maritime-themed 5 o'clock teas. Sterling, 5",

Van Winkle detailed front and back. He has a long beard and is carrying a

#69. Gorham Crab / Oyster Shell SOUTHOLD [Long Island].
Although you'll find this and other spoons listed on eBay as Narragansett
pattern, I think Gorham, the manufacturer, called it a Five O'clock Tea
Spoon. There is a crab applied to the handle and wrapped with a sterling ribbon.
The bowl is shaped like an oyster shell and engraved SOUTHOLD
after the Long Island town. See spoons #62 & #90 for 2 more
examples of the maritime- themed 5 o'clock teas. Sterling, 5", Gorham, very

Indian maiden in a canoe, front and back. Bowl is embossed to depict Niagara
Falls looking past American Falls towards the tour boat Maid of the Mist at the
foot of Horseshoe Falls. Theme of this spoon was inspired by the Indian
legend of the white canoe in which the daughter of the chief was sacrificed
over the falls in a canoe. Sterling, 5½", no maker's mark, very good

then Ethan Allen, then his famous words down the stem: "I demand this fort

to this site last summer and the hotel is gone but its foundation is still there

Union building which was built in 1900 as a meeting place for students but

#84. Salem Witch (second pattern). Handle is a figural
broom with a cat at its base, SALEM. 1692 [the year of the witchcraft trials in
Salem, MA], a hangman's rope wrapped around, three pins hidden in broom and a Salem
Witch at the top. This was the 2nd Salem Witch spoon design produced for
Salem, MA jeweler Daniel Low and was a huge success in the 1890's marketplace.
Handle detailed front and back and engraved GR 1908 on back. Sterling souvenir

#85. Poland Spring Water. Bottle-cap figure front & back. POLAND SPRING on stem. Began as a B & B
in 1794 beside a spring
in Maine became world-famous and won top honors at the 1893 World's
Columbian Exposition for its bottled water. Today ships water from various
sources in plastic containers. Some black spots in gold wash but no apparent
wear. Sterling, 5¾", Durgin, very good condition. |

#86. Salem Witch. Handle embossed to depict a witch
seeming to cast a spell with the city name SALEM on the stem along with three
pins symbolizing the physical evidence presented at the witchcraft trials in
1692. The bowl is in a citrus shape. This handle represents the first Salem
Witch spoon design that Salem jeweler Daniel Low sold at the beginning of the
spoon collecting fad in the USA. Sterling souvenir spoon, 5¾", made

Although you'll find this and other spoons listed on eBay as Narragansett
pattern, I think Gorham, the manufacturer, simply called it a Five O'clock
Tea Spoon. There are 3 fish applied to the handle and wrapped with a sterling
ribbon. The bowl is shaped like an clam shell and engraved per title. See spoons
#62 & #69 for 2 more examples of the maritime-themed 5 o'clock teas.

the type fired on Ft. Sumter, first engagement of the Civil War. It is adorned
with laurel and views of Mt. Vernon and the Custis-Lee mansion (also called Arlington
House) in Arlington, VA. Reverse embossed with full-length picture of the
Washington Monument. Bowl embossed with view of the U. S. Capitol. Sterling,
5¾", no maker's mark, very good condition. |

sharply detailed front and back. Faintly gold-washed bowl is embossed and
enameled with CSA & USA flags. CSA flag is perfect; there's enamel missing
from top red stripe of USA flag (you won't detect that without your reading
glasses but enlarged illustration shows the loss well). Robert
E. Lee led the Army of Northern Virginia throughout the war. Sterling,

which I believe is at the "bloody angle" on Cemetery Ridge, the

handle with seal, train tunnel and state name. Bowl is engraved with same view
as #94 above, but before the destruction. Note the logs, not debris, collected
at the right-hand end of the bridge and also the undamaged buildings, not
collapsed buildings. Great companion to the classic cast Gorham spoon #94 above.

acid-etched with WILMINGTON, VT and the letters FS superimposed on each other.
The bowl is engraved with a picture of a wonderful weather vane featuring a fish

#97. George Washington. Some claim that this was the
first souvenir spoon produced in the USA while others favor the Salem Witch. In
either case, this is a very old spoon that is more difficult to find than the
Salem Witch. The handle has an embossed coin-like likeness of Geo. Washington on
one side with his birth and death dates on the other. Engraved on the handle is
the family crest. The bowl is a citrus shape and is engraved with an S.

#106. Miles Standish Bonbon. A super Pilgrim themed bonbon
spoon for your Thanksgiving table. Miles Standish is portrayed at the top of the
spoon, John Alden and Priscilla are shown in the middle, and "Speak
for yourself John" is embossed at the bottom of the handle. When Myles
Standish sent John to propose to Priscilla for him, it seems Priscilla favored

featuring a figural obelisk for a handle decorated with hieroglyphics and an

I have seen. The handle is a rare Teddy bear and the bowl is a beautiful bright

wonderful. It has a bright cut engraved scene of the "Ball Room" in

oar. A nicely detailed blue crab is clutching the oar and trailing seaweed on

shaped like a figural spade with the business end turned into a bowl. Embossed
on the spade is "used by William Howard Taft President of the United States
October 14, 1911- in turning the first spadeful of earth for the Panama Pacific
International Exposition to be held in San Francisco 1915." Marked
sterling, 4 1/4", no maker's mark, excellent condition. |

American Indian brave at the top of the handle. He is very detailed on both
sides of the spoon. "Memphis" is on the handle and the bowl shows two

#118. Sleepy Hollow. This spoon honors the author Washington
Irving, his famous work "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", and the town of
Tarrytown, New York. The handle is embossed with the Old Dutch Church 1898, the
Andre Monument, and "Sleepy Hollow". The bowl shows his home which he
named Sunnyside, and "Tarrytown, N.Y.". Sterling, just over

acorns, leaves and teeth. The enamel or painted bowl has a hooded figure and is
labeled "Munchen" . The enamel or paint is uneven and the silver

#124. Admiral Dewey. This spoon commemorates Admiral George
Dewey who is best known for his victory in 1898 at the Battle of Manila Bay
during the Spanish American War. The handle shows an Indian with ears of corn
and the handle reverse shows Indian symbols. The gold washed bowl features a
very nice silver toned image of Admiral Dewey. Sterling, 4", made by

#125. Fort Sumter. This Charleston, South Carolina spoon has
a beautiful engraving of Fort Sumter in the bowl. The bombardment of Fort Sumter
took place on April 12 & 13, 1861 and was the first military action of the

#127. "And a Little Child Shall Lead Them" Baby Spoon.
This wonderful baby spoon is a visual portrayal of the Bible verse found in
Isaiah 11:6.The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down
with the kid, and the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little
child shall lead them. This is my favorite baby spoon and I was thrilled to find
another one to include in this auction. I treasure the one I have in my own
