Welcome to the American Souvenir Spoons auction. The auction concluded at 11 pm on February 22, 2011, but we hope that you'll enjoy looking at the many fine pictures and links anyway. A few of the spoons did not sell and now are being offered for sale at fixed prices, first come, first served. Please send us a list of the "for sale" spoons that you want to buy. For each spoon, please list the spoon number and spoon title to help us insure that we send you the right spoons. We'll answer your email as soon as possible, usually within eight hours. 1. Seminole Soffkee Spoon / Chief
Osceola. Here's a spoon with an angled handle to mimic a
Seminole Soffkee Spoon (so described by lettering on back of handle;
Sofkee is usually spelled with one S) and a bowl that is embossed front
and back to depict both Biscayne Bay and
the famous Indian Chief
Osceola. Sterling, 5 3/8", Gorham for Greenleaf & Crosby, very
good condition. |

2. Crescent City Skyline. Handle is
cut-around to depict a skyline view of the New Orleans riverfront with
paddlewheelers amassed on the Mississippi River and a quay-side scene
with horse-drawn carts in the foreground. Finial is a crescent with the
city's nickname on it (CRESCENT CITY). Bowl is engraved NEW ORLEANS.

3. New Orleans / Cabildo. Cotton
boll in crescent with city name, bamboo stalk stem. Bowl very finely
engraved with view of Cabildo, now a museum,
formerly a court house and government building. Sterling, 5¾", Gorham
for A. B. Griswold, good condition with moderate wear. |

4. New Orleans / Canal St. New
Orleans handle with scenes front and back. Bowl embossed with very busy
street scene of trolley cars and horse-drawn carriages plus the caption
CANAL
STREET, NEW ORLEANS, LA. Sterling, 5 3/8", Watson & Newell,
very good condition. |

5. Adirondacks Moose. Handle is
embossed with very high relief moose trotting towards the bowl. Snow
shoes and hunting rifles provide addtional decoration. Reverse is
embossed with pine boughs and engraved B-E-Z. Bowl engraved ADIRONDACKS.

6. Red Jacket / Paradise Bay. Finial
depicts the bust of Seneca Chief Red
Jacket. Bowl is embossed with scene of Paradise Bay and Black
Mountain on Lake George, NY. Here's a picture of an old postcard that
might have provided the inspiration for the designer of this spoon's bowl.
View looks nearly identical to me. Sterling, 5¾", Alvin, very good
condition. |

7. Red Jacket / High Rock Springs.
Finial depicts the bust of Seneca Chief Red
Jacket. Bowl is embossed with scene of High
Rock Spring in Saratoga, NY. Reverse engraved DORIS, NOV. 18, 1909.

8. Adirondacks / Hunting. Handle is
embossed with image of magnificent looking stag, two long guns and
ADIRONDACK down the stem. A tiny mosquito adorns the junction of the
handle and bowl. Sterling, no maker's mark, 5¾", very good
condition. |

9. Adirondacks / Baker Cottage (gold washed bowl). Handle is sharply embossed with views of 10-pt. buck in the mountains, hunting and fishing equipment and the bust of John Brown. Stem reads ADIRONDACK'S. Bowl is gold washed and embossed with view of Baker Cottage on Saranac Lake where Robert Louis Stevenson did some of his writing in the 19th century before moving on to Samoa. Sterling, 6¼" (that's right, more than six inches), F. E. Mull, very good condition. Sold for $28. |

10. Adirondacks / Baker Cottage.
Handle is sharply embossed with views of 10-pt. buck in the mountains,
hunting and fishing equipment and the bust of John Brown. Stem reads
ADIRONDACK'S. Bowl is embossed with view of Baker Cottage on Saranac
Lake where Robert Louis
Stevenson did some of his writing in the 19th century before moving
on to the South Seas. Sterling, 6¼" (that's right, more than six
inches), Towle, very good condition. |

11. Battle of Plattsburgh. Handle
embossed with the bust of Commodore Thomas Macdonough, the American
naval commander who was victorious in the War
of 1812 battle with the British forces at Plattsburgh, NY on Lake
Champlain.The bowl is embossed with a view of the battle. Sterling, 5
7/8", Chas. J. Dale, very good condition. |

12. Champlain / Battle with Iroquois. Handle embossed with bust of Samuel de Champlain the famous French explorer who founded Quebec, explored the Great Lakes and assisted Huron and Algonquin Indians in their battles with the Iriquois around the lake that he named for himself as the first European to explore it. The bowl is embossed with a wonderful depiction of Champlain firing his arquebus and killing two Iriquois with one shot in 1603. Sterling, 5½", no maker's mark, very good condition. Sold for $81. |

13. Albany, NY. City crest on
handle, NY state capitol building in bowl. Sterling, 6", Gorham for
James Mix, very good condition. |

14. Ausable Chasm, NY. New York
handle with state seal and Peter Stuyvesant. Bowl embossed with scene
showing a boat with 4 people between high rocky walls of Ausable Chasm in
the Adirondacks, a tourist attraction that some wishful thinkers refer
to as the "Grand Canyon of the East". Sterling, 5½", Shepard, very good
condition. |

15. Oneida Historical Society.
Grapes embossed on spoon handle. Bowl is gold washed and has painted
view of the Oneida Historical Society building in Utica, NY. Wording in
bowl is engraved. There doesn't seem to be any paint loss on the bowl
but there is one black mark in the gold wash on the bowl reverse.

16. High Rock Spring, Saratoga, NY.
Native American bust is finely detailed front and back. Bowl is
embossed with High Rock Spring view. Sterling, 6", Alvin, very good

17. Ft. Ticonderoga, Ethan Allen.
Views of the fort, then Ethan
Allen, then his famous words down the stem: "I demand this fort in
the name of The Great Jehovah and the Continental Congress." Sterling,
5¾", F. W. Sim, good condition as noted. |

18. New York / St. Patrick's
Cathedral. Big & heavy spoon with crisply embossed
details. Statue of Liberty, eagle, NYC crest, NEW YORK on handle and
great view of St. Patrick's Cathedral embossed in the bowl. Sterling,
6", Tiffany, very good condition. |

19. New York / Brooklyn Bridge. New
York state handle with embossed bowl depicting the Brooklyn
Bridge. As you can see from the link, the bridge was a very big
deal in the 1890's. Sterling, 5½", Gorham, very good condition. |

20. Chief Ogontz. Heavy spoon with
high-relief medallion of the Wyandotte Native American chief enclosed
in a braid that extends all the way to the citru-shaped bowl. Very
light remnants of gold washing on the bowl. Ogontz is also memorialized on
the Cooke Mansion at Penn State University, Abington Campus. Sterling,
5½", Dominick & Haff for Bailey, Banks & Biddle, very good

21. Johnstown Flood. Handle shows
lake at end then broken factory drive-shaft down the stem, labeled
"JOHNSTOWN, PA". Bowl depicts destruction of the flood with debris
piled up against bridge. Sterling, heavy, 5¾", cast by Gorham, very
good condition. |

22. Stourbridge Lion, Honesdale, PA.
Handle embossed with picture of America's first
steam locomotive, a lion's head, and the Aug. 8 '29, HONESDALE, PA.
Stem embossed with STOURBRIDGE LION. Citrus-shaped bowl has very faint
remnant of gold wash on it. Sterling, 6", heavy, Gorham, very good
condition. |

23. Rip Van Winkle. Wonderful little
3-D statue of the legendary Rip Van Winkle, apparently representing his
initial confusion upon awakening after his very long nap. Facial
expression and hand on temple both seem to indicate disorientation.

& Co., very good condition. |

24. Joe Jefferson (toast). Nice big
& heavy spoon commemorating the actor who was famous for his
portrayal of Rip Van Winkle, probably the most famous Washington
Irving character. Handle shows him in that role. Bowl embossed with
a toast which I presume also came from that play. Sterling, 6", Howard
for Williams & Son, very good condition. |

25. Catskill Mountains. Handle
embossed to depict Natty
Bumppo (a.k.a. Deerslayer or Hawkeye or Leatherstofking or etc.)
talking to an elf. Stem is embossed with CATSKILL MOUNTAINS. This is a
beautiful handle made from heavy stock and embossed in high relief.
Bowl engraved E J W. Handle reverse engraved Dec. 25th, '93. Sterling,
5 7/8", heavy, Gorham #691, very good condition. |

26. Battleship Virginia. State
handle with VA seal, VIRGINIA, sea-life, etc. Handle reverse engraved
with a single gothic initial with NORFOLK, 2-14-11 on bowl reverse.
Bowl obverse is embossed with view of the battleship Virginia.

27. Atlanta, GA, Terminal Station.
Georgia handle with Indian stuff on the back. Spoon bowl is embossed
with view of Terminal Station in Atlanta. Sterling, 5¾", Watson &

28. Lower Peachtree St., Atlanta.
Handle is embossed with view of city buildings then cut out around the
tops of the buildings creating what some would call an enclosed
skyline. City name is on the stem. Bowl is embossed with representation
of trolley car making its way between rows of tall buildings with the
title LOWER PEACHTREE ST. above. Sterling, 6", Watson & Newell,
very good condition. |

29. Wilmington, NC. Handle is
detailed all around to represent a fishing reel and rod (rod
disassembled into two pieces) and three fish (presumeably freshly
caught ;-) Bowl is in the shape of a shell and is engraved WILMINGTON,
NC. Sterling, 5", mark is unclear but next to STERLING the back is
stamped 933, very good condition. |

30. Aiken, SC. High-relief pine
boughs and cones on handle, AIKEN, SC is bright-cut engraved in
gold-washed bowl. Sterling, 5¼", Watson & Newell, very good
condition. |

31. Hudson-Fulton Celebration. Big,
heavy spoon by Tiffany honoring the Hudon-Fulton
Celebration of 1909 which celebrated the 300th anniversary of the
discovery of the Hudson River and also the 100th anniversary of the use
of steam to power a ship. Handle features images of Henry Hudson's ship
the Half Moon and the New York crest. Bowl depicts Robert
Fulton's ship the Clermont. Handle reverse engraved E
C.Sterling, 5 7/8", Tiffany, very good condition. |

32. PPIE (plain bowl). Handle is
embossed with P.P.I.E.
exposition symbols front and back. San Francisco hosted the P.P.I.E. in
1915. Handle reverse has words OFFICIAL SOUVENIR P. P. I. E. on the
stem. Bowl is plain. Sterling, 5 3/8", Robbins, excellent condition. |

33. PPIE (1915 bowl). Handle is
embossed with two letter P's that extend into the bowl. At finial,
global views of European and American hemispheres are depicted inside
the P's while the bowl adds 19 and 15 and letters I and E to the stems
of the P's. Sterling, 5¼", no maker's mark, very good condition. |

34. Monterey, CA Custom House.
Handle embossed front and back with rifles, cannon, sabers, USA crest.
Bowl has embossed view of the first custom house in Monterey, CA. which
is recognized today as the oldest government building
in California. The military items are embossed on the front and
back sides of the spoon handle. Sterling, 6", no maker's mark, very
good condition. |

35. City of Angels. Big heavy spoon
with high relief on handle and in bowl. Handle has caption THE CITY OF
THE ANGELS, then a standing angelic figure with large wings,
copious fruits, and finally LOS ANGELES, CAL. down the stem. Bowl
depicts the Franciscan Mission of San Gabriel with its multi-bell tower
on the left. Sterling, 5 7/8", Montgomery Bros., very good

36. Hotel Del Monte, Monterey.
High-relief daisies embossed on front and back of handle. Bowl embossed
with view of the Hotel
Del Monte, Monterey, Cal. (check out the link for wonderful
pictures of buildings and fires at hotel Del Monte). Hotel is in use
today as part of the Naval Postgraduate School. Bowl reverse engrave
MARCH 28 06. Sterling, 5¼", Paye & Baker (heavy stock), very good

37. Los Angeles Palm Tree.
California handle with state scenes front and back. Bowl embossed with
nice view of a palm tree plus the legend PALM TREE, LOS ANGELES, CAL.

38. Long Beach Poinsettia. State
handle with justice back. Bowl has inlaid enamel poinsettia with
embossed caption POINSETTIA. The city name LONG BEACH is engraved at
edge of bowl. In addition to being a nice souvenir, this spoon could
find a place on almost any Christmas table. Entirely gold washed.

39. Casa Grande Ruins. Heavy cast
spoon by Gorham. FF saguaro cactus detailed front and back (with NO
flat spot for marks). Bowl depicts the Casa Grande

embossed scenes front and back. Bowl is in the shape of a gold

44. Idaho sugar shell. Very pretty
sugar shell with Idaho handle bearing local scenes front and back.
Reverse engraved MABLE 1896 on the engraving spot. Sterling silver

45. Gardiner, Maine. Etched floral
handle and etched bowl. Bowl depicts a waterfront scene complete with
three-masted sailing ship plus the words CITY CHARTER GRANTED 1849 at
the top and GARDINER FOUNDED 1754 at the bottom. Gardiner is at
the head of navigation of the Kennebec River and was renowned early in
its history for its ship building. Sterling, 5¾", Towle, very good
condition. |

46. Absecon Lighthouse, Atlantic
City. Figural lighthouse, front and back, labeled ABSECON
LIGHT and with a banner reading ATLANTIC CITY. The 171-foot tall
tower is said to be haunted by old-time lighthouse keepers and their
families as evidenced by mysterious laughter by invisible beings and
other spooky happenings. Bowl engraved with view of the steel pier.

47. Goddess Pele, Hawaii. Cast spoon
by Gorham circa 1891. Bust of the Fire Goddess Pele
against backdrop of flames, then HAWAII down stem. Bowl depicts crater
of volcano with a plume of smoke rising from it. Sterling, heavy, 5½",
Gorham for H. F. WICHMAN, excellent condition. |

48. Salem Witch (second pattern).
Figural broom with cat at its base, SALEM 1692 [ year of the witchcraft
trials], a hangman's rope wrapped around, three pins hidden in
broom and a Salem Witch at the top. This was the 2nd Salem Witch spoon
design produced for Salem, MA jeweler Daniel Low and was a huge success
in the 1890's. Handle detailed front and back. Sterling souvenir spoon,
5 7/8", made by Gorham for Daniel Low, very good condition. |

49. Baltimore Terrapin. The handle
is embossed with some of Maryland's famous sea creatures: oysters, blue
crabs and a terrapin with sea spray dousing them all. The oyster
shell-shaped bowl depicts the Battle Monument commemorating the Battle
of North Point, the War of 1812 battle that inspired Francis Scott
Key's composition of the Star Spangled Banner. Reverse engraved ACW.

detailed front and back, then OMAHA. The figure might represent the
famous Chief Logan Fontenelle. Lightly gold-washed bowl. Sterling, 5

51. Omaha / Logan Fontenelle. Big
and heavy Gorham St. Cloud blank with figure of Native American Logan
Fontenelle embossed on the handle, then OMAHA down the stem.

52. Detroit. Cast spoon with 3-D
Michigan crest as a finial and the Detroit crest in the bowl. Sterling,
heavy, 6", cast by Gorham (#15) for E. G. Smith & Sons, very good

53. Susan B. Anthony. Here's the
much sought-after silver spoon that commemorates Susan B. Anthony,
arguably the first lady of Woman's Suffrage. The spoon handle is
embossed with her profile and name along with the slogan POLITICAL
EQUALITY. Pretty fluted bowl. Sterling, 5 5/8", Frank Smith, very good
condition. |

54. Mary Baker Eddy. Bust of the founder
of Christian Science & facsimile of her signature. Rose bud at
juncture of stem and the bowl. Bowl embossed with view of Pleasant
View, Eddy's home in Concord, NH. Handle reverse repeats cross &
crown from front and had script quotation, "Not matter but mind
satisfieth". Sterling spoon, 5¾", made by Wm. Durgin of Keene, NH,
excellent condition. |

55. The Stone Mill, Newport, RI. Cast
spoon with elements of the Rhode Island seal on the finial. Bowl is
citrus shaped and depicts a stone structure under the legend THE STONE
MILL. Under the mill appear the words NEWPORT, RI. Reverse is engraved
with three old-style letters: F J B (?). Sterling, 5¾", cast by Gorham
for H. A. Heath & Co., very good condition. |

56. Ocean House, Newport, RI.
Enameled pansies on the handle. There is discoloration in the enamel
and a repaired flake along the bottom edge. There is no damage to the
enamel flowers. Bowl engraved with view of OCEAN HOUSE, NEWPORT, R. I.
which appears to be a rather large resort hotel. Sterling, 5½",
Shepard, good condition. |

57. Columbian Expo Woman's Building.
Nice phoenix on a twisted handle with CHICAGO beneath the flames.
Gold-washed bowl has very pretty engraving of Woman's Building and the
legend WOMAN'S BUILDING. The imagery is from the 1893 Columbian
Exposition in Chicago, IL. Sterling, 5 7/8", Giles Bros. & Co.,
very good condition. |

58. Pintsch. Handle has a gas lamp
from a railroad car, then June 1892. Bowl has an unusual shape and is
embossed with the brand name PINTSCH, the
maker of gas lamps. This spoon was first seen at the World's Columbian
Exposition in Chicago. Sterling, 5 3/8", Alvin, very good condition. |

59. Columbian Exposition / Columbus at
Barcelona. Handle embossed with view of palace, an eagle on a
globe, "CHICAGO" on the front. On the back is a view of the Santa Maria
under sail and exploration items such as a globe, etc. Bowl shows
Columbus with the king and queen. Sterling, 6", Wallace, excellent
condition. |

60. Naval Review. A Columbian
Exposition spoon honoring the Naval Review that was part of the
celebration. Handle is embossed with an anchor, a ship's wheel, a
windlass and rope with the words NAVAL REVIEW 1893. Bowl is embossed
with a view of warships representing England, France, Russia, Germany,
Italy, Spain and other nations that took part in the review. The legend
reads: HAMPTON ROADS - NEW YORK. Sterling, 6", Howard, very good
condition. |

61. Chicago Phoenix. Handle embossed
with a phoenix rising from flaming logs with a sunrise viewed between
its wings. Stem is labeled CHICAGO. Bowl is embossed with view of a
block house and FORT DEARBORN 1803 - 1857 CHICAGO. Sterling, 6 1/8",
Hymen Berg & Co., very good condition. |

62. Duluth, MN. Minnesota handle with
elements of state seal and state name on stem. Bowl embossed with
DULUTH and views of Aerial Bridge, High School, and S. S.
Northwest. Reverse embossed with Lady Justice and the USA eagle.

63. Falls of St. Anthony. A view of
the falls is embossed horizontally on the handle and framed with the
words FALLS OF ST. ANTHONY on the left, MINNEAPOLIS on the right.

64. Lincoln, NE Rail Splitter. Handle
is a split rail with a wedge in the opening and a mallet superimposed,
labeled Lincoln, Neb. Grasshopper adorns the stem. Bowl has image of
the state capitol. Abraham Lincoln, after whom the city is named, was
known as "The
Rail Splitter" a term that originated at the Illinois Republican
convention in 1860. Sterling, 5¾", Gorham for J. B. Trickey & Co.,
very good condition. |

65. Gen. John B. Gordon, CSA. FF Gen.
Gordon in uniform detailed front and back. Lacking military experience
before the Civil War, he quickly rose
through the officer ranks to command one half of R. E. Lee's Army
of Northern Virginia. He was a major political figure after the war.
Bowl is lightly gold washed and engraved ATLANTA, GA. Handle reverse is
engraved Feby 3, 17. Sterling, 5 5/8", Shepard for Davis & Freeman,
very good condition. |

66. Five O'Clock Club. Here's a spoon you almost never see. Handle is a representation of the Rittenhouse Clock that was built c. 1770 by David Rittenhouse. Publisher George Childs acquired this clock and it adorned his office where the Five O'clock Club was born. Clock was reputed to be Childs's most treasured possession. and it was depicted on the menus of the club. Bowl has minor superficial scratches from use. Sterling, 6 1/8", Dominick & Haff for Jacob Bennett & Son, very heavy, excellent condition. Sold for $150. |

67. Ionia, MI Reformatory. Floral
pattern handle with engraved bowl depicting the reformatory at Ionia,
Michigan. Sterling, 5¼", Watson & Newell, good condition. |

68. Pabst Beer Building. Wisconsin
handle with state seal and name on handle. Bowl is lightly gold washed
and embossed with view of the Pabst
Building in Milwaukee. With an architectural height of more than 70
meters, this is the tallest building ever demolished in Wisconsin
(1981). Handle reverse engraved H F B in fancy old-style script.

Moses Cleaveland holding a staff, then MOSES CLEAVELAND FOUNDED THE
CITY 1796 on the stem. Bowl engraved with view of Soldiers &

70. Indianapolis. Handle is embossed
with Indiana state seal and INDIANAPOLIS down the stem. Bowl is embosed

71. D. A. R. Vignette of woman
working at spinning wheel spinning yarn. Banner attached to spindle

72. Washington City. Figural Washington
Monument entwined with laurel & oak, detailed front and back.
The 555-foot tall obelisk is one of the dominant features of our
nation's capital's landscapes, of course, right in the center of all
the important buildings and monuments. Sterling, 5½", Moore &

73 Historical Cannon. Cannon is of
the type fired on Ft. Sumter, first engagement of the Civil War. It is
adorned with laurel and views of Mt. Vernon and the
Custis-Lee
Mansion (also called Arlington House) in Arlington, VA. Reverse
embossed with full-length picture of the Washington Monument. Bowl
embossed with view of the U. S. Capitol. Nice mate for #97 below.

74. Washington, DC. Entire spoon is
cast of molten silver in a sand mold rather than stamped into a cold
silver blank, producing an overall rougher look than typical embossed
spoons. Eagle with banner lettered with city name, stars down stem.
Bowl embossed with view of U. S. Capitol. Bowl reverse engraved AMB.
Sterling, 5¾", cast by Gorham for Harris & Shafer, very good

75. Bunker Hill Monument. Full-length
representation of an inverted Bunker Hill Monument with the date of the
famous
battle, 1775, at the end. The British wanted the hill in
Charlestown, MA to give them a vantage point from which to control
access to the north side of Boston Harbor. Wm. Prescott uttered the
famous order, "Don't
fire until you see the whites of their eyes" to his American troops
here. Sterling, 5¾", no maker's mark, very good condition. |

76. Charter Oak, Hartford, CT. Fancy
handle embossed with important CT imagery and dates. The bowl depicts
the storied Charter Oak, the hiding place of Connecticut's charter from
the English king. This location today is marked by the Charter
Oak Monument (see link for more information about Charter Oak).

77. J. G. Holland. This spoon honors
famous editor and author Josiah
Gilbert Holland of Springfield, MA. After early chapters in his
life as a physician in Springfield and a teacher in Richmond and
Vicksburg, he gained fame as the newspaper editor in Springfield, MA
and NYC. He also wrote extensively including successful novels and
essays on topics of the times such as abolition. Sterling, 5¾", Gorham
for C. S. Saxton & Co., very good condition. |

78. Bird's Nest. This is a demitasse
size spoon in Gorham's famous and hard to find Bird's Nest pattern. The
handle is a branch holding a bird's nest containing 3 eggs. The inside
of the nest is gold washed as is the egg shaped bowl and the two leaves
that decorate the area where the handle meets the bowl. It is a
beautiful design. Sterling, 4 5/8", made by Gorham, very good
condition. |

79. Bowie Knife. "Victory or Death".
This demitasse size of this great spoon is harder to find than the tea
size. It honors the men who made their last stand at the Alamo in 1836
and died defending the old mission. The bowl is embossed with "The
Alamo built in 1718 San Antonio, Texas" and a scene of the mission. It
is detailed on both sides. Sterling, 4 1/8", made by Watson, very good
condition. |

80. Norfolk, Virginia Clam. The
design of this spoon is very pretty. The gold washed bowl is shaped
like a clamshell and is engraved "Norfolk Va". Both sides of the silver
handle are embossed with other seaside items - shells, seaweed, coral
etc. The bowl reverse is also gold washed and is engraved "Jan 96".
Sterling, 4 1/2", made by Wallace, very good condition with some

81. Norfolk Confederate Monument.
Here's a great find for Civil War, military or Virginia collectors.
This one is cast by Gorham and honors those killed in the Civil War.
"Our Confederate Dead 1861 - 1865" is near the base of the monument
between two of the soldiers. Above that is a stylized "CSA" and above
that is the battle flag of the Confederacy. This spoon design is
beautiful although different from the actual monument. Sterling, 4 1/8,
cast by Gorham, "R" engraved on bowl reverse, very good condition -
scratches on reverse. |

82. We Drank from the Same Canteen. Another Civil War spoon. The whole handle is a flagpole with a flag wrapped around it. The flagpole extends into the middle of the bowl. Tied on the flagpole is a canteen with the dates of the Civil War - "1861 - 1865" and the words " We Drank From the Same Canteen". This is the last line of each stanza in the poem The Same Canteen by Private Miles O'Reilly. The whole poem can be seen at www.civilwarpoetry.org/union/soldierlife/canteen.html . The reverse is plain. Sterling, just under 4 1/2", made by Howard, excellent condition. Sold for $38. |

83. Nag's Head North Carolina. This
spoon has an interesting feather design at the end of the handle. The
gold washed bowl is engraved Nag's Head N.C. The spoon has no maker's
mark but is marked sterling and has the number 556 on the feather
reverse. The spoon is 4 1/2" and is in very good condition. |

84. New Orleans. This is a pretty
gold washed spoon with enameled oranges and blossoms at the top of the
handle. The enamel is in perfect condition. The bowl is nicely engraved
"New Orleans LA". Sterling, 3 7/8", made by Shepard, "1900" engraved on
handle reverse, excellent condition. |

85. Orange. I love this figural
orange spoon. The handle is the stem of the orange decorated with
leaves and a blossom and the bowl is round and textured like an orange.
Make sure you look at the picture of the back of the spoon to really
see how it resembles an orange. Sterling, 4 1/8", made by Watson, very
good condition with some wear on the front of bowl - but still very
nice. |

86. Narragansett Pier. This very
pretty spoon features an anchor and the word "Hope" at the top of the
handle. The design is taken from the Rhode Island state seal. The bowl
features the Narragansett Pier and it is beautiful in silver against
the gold background. Sterling, 4 3/4", cast by Gorham, engraved "E.A.L.
from J.B.D. "93" on bowl reverse, excellent condition. |

87. San Diego, California. This
spoon celebrates the seaside themes of the area with a clamshell and a
sailing vessel on a figural oar handle. "San Diego" is nicely engraved
in the gold washed bowl. Sterling, 4 1/2", made by Codding Bros. &
Heilborn, very good condition. |

88. Holyoke, Massachusetts. This
Holyoke, Massachusetts spoon features the Mt Tom Incline Railroad that
was built in 1897. The cable car went from the base station (shown in
the bowl of the spoon) to the pavilion at the summit of Mt Tom (shown
at the top of the handle). The tracks are shown down the length of the
spoon. A really great design. Sterling, 4", made by Wendell, plain
reverse, excellent condition. |

89. Western Girl. A woman looking
right at home on her horse is featured, front and back, on the handle
of this spoon. "A Western Girl" is embossed down the stem of the
handle. The bowl features the "North Head Light House" "Ilwaco
Washington" and is embossed with a view of the same. Sterling, 4 1/4",
made by Mayer Bros., excellent condition. |

90. DAR. This Daughter of the
American Revolution spoon is a beautiful design from top to bottom.
"Home & Country" is embossed on the ribbon tied to the star studded
spindle at the top. The handle shows the spun yarn which flows down the
handle and forms the "DAR" in the heart shaped bowl. Sterling, 4 3/8",
made by Durgin, "D.A.R." engraved on reverse, very good condition- some
wear and scratches. |

91. Cupid. Valentine's day is coming
soon and here is a perfect gift for someone. This love spoon has a
darling cupid holding his bow and standing on an arrow that extends
into the heart shaped gold washed bowl. The handle is detailed front

92. Buffalo, New York. Another arrow
spoon with a heart shaped bowl. This one has an arrow for the handle
with forget me not flowers decorating the twist handle. "Buffalo" is

93. Easter Chick. This is a cute
Easter spoon. A gold washed chick just hatched from his silver egg sits
at the top of a twist handle. Details are on the front only - reverse
is flat. The gold washed bowl is very attractive with small flowers and

94. Easter. This is Daniel Low's
popular Easter spoon. Two chicks just hatched from their eggs are
featured at the top of the spoon. "Easter" is embossed down the handle
and a lily separates the handle from the egg shaped bowl. Sterling, 4

95. The Gorge Coin Bowl - Victoria, British
Columbia. This is a very unusual spoon. It may be a "one of a
kind" since it looks hand made to me. The bowl is a coin embossed with
Queen Victoria's image and "Victoria DEI Gratia Regina Cana". The
handle has a maple leaf attached to a twist handle. The reverse of the
coin is engraved with a beautiful scene and is labeled "The Gorge
Victoria B.C." Unknown silver content and maker, 4 7/8", Canadian coin
bowl, "1891" engraved on leaf reverse, good condition. |

96. Cactus Coin Bowl. Another spoon
with a coin bowl. This one has a great figural cactus for a handle. The
bowl is a Mexican gold coin embossed with an eagle on a cactus holding
a snake in his mouth. The words "Republica Mexicana and 1880"are around
the coin. The reverse is very worn but shows a cap, scales, a scroll
with "LEY" meaning law, a sword and "50 Centavos". Handle reverse is
marked Sterling and Geo.C. Shreve & Co and the initials "A.K.F." in
script, 4 1/2", See pictures for details. |

97. Little Miss Muffet. A very cute
baby spoon with Miss Muffet eating her curds and whey under a huge
spider web. A very large spider is hanging from the web and is about to
frighten her away!!! Very nice engraving. The curved handle is engraved
