Etched spoon produced by eroding away the background with acid, leaving the city name and border prominent. This example was then gold-washed.

Engraved spoon. Notice that lettering was engraved straight into the silver, yielding dark letters, while some of the building was "bright-cut", cut at an angle to leave a bright reflecting surface. This example was gold-washed.
